First off, below this one is a revised post with the latest updates on Project #1, so don't forget to read it.
Project #2 is sort of random. I put a call out to see what people wanted to work on next, and it was vaguely agreed upon by a handful of people that it should be "Timely Westerns".
Based on that, I bid and won two auctions:
Tex Taylor #3 ($12.50)
Two Gun Kid #5 ($21.50)
With the shipping, it came to $40. Auctions have been paid for.

One of the reasons that I like the idea of going after the Timely Westerns, is that there are only 75 unscanned books. Subtracting the 10 or so that I know members have already, or are planning to buy on their own in the near future, leaves about 65. Some of these are well known books, and a few are expensive, but many can be had on ebay in the $12-15 range. The catch is that they don't always come around very often.
The trick then, is to let pmack know if you see one on auction or buy it now, so that he can snap it up.
Now there are also 364 Atlas Westerns..... :)
Just dl Rawhide Kid #19 and Ringo Kid #11. Scans are superb! And I think this is working out great. Thanks Pmack!
For future projects, I vote for any Timely or Atlas. But it makes sense to me if this group tries to slightly focus on more expensive purchases where there's interest in completing a series, so the burden is evenly distributed.
But at this point we're running out of money, right?
I'd like to point out that there is a Rawhide Kid 4 coming up for auction in a few days, that I think we should try to go for.
Actually, we recouped some money today. Our working balance now stands at $177.
The two newest books mentioned in this post arrived today, but I won't be able to scan them until the weekend.
Rawhide Kid 15 is still in the wind, but I think it was shipped Media Mail.
Also won Wild West 2 today, $29 with shipping.
I like the idea of trying to cap off some of the books that are already on the ropes...Like Rawhide. I mean that one is a big bitch just begging to be finished.
If we're really lucky, someone will compile it all into a giant Archive Edition! hee hee. Just kiddin' Kritter-DCP!
But seriously...While I vote for finishing Rawhide...it might serve us best to have a "take on all comers" attitude, so as to just unfold our arms and scoop up every book big and small as it comes down the pike. Bigger books are our reason for being here...but biding our time with smaller books is okee dokee too I would think. It all works towards the same goal.
Would it be too much work to compile a separate page with, say, a chart showing what we bought and the status...such as how much we bought it for...how much it sold for, etc?
Or, if it is too much info to put out there in the public eye...mayhap an excel file that can be distributed privately on our usual stomping grounds? Then we can gauge whether or not the whole "project" is working...or perhaps just use it to motivate more people.
The excel file is a good idea, so good in fact, I decided a few days ago to make one!
Seriously, I think I am going to set up a space over at 4shared.com to aid in the distribution of scans as they are available (one stop for everything is easier than assorted Megaupload links).
I can keep an excel file there too to keep a running total so everyone can see what's going on. Updates on the blog are OK, but you can't get a sense of where the money is going, especially when there are multiple books in various "states" (scanned, waiting, sold, etc.). We can also keep an eye on attrition, which I said before is what's going to sink this project eventually.
I'll probably get it set up sometime this weekend. Link will be posted when available.
Only problem with trying to finish off Rawhide Kid, is that none of us know where to get the books we need (other than waiting around until the show up on auction sites)
Huh. Well thats funny...Cuz Brigus found all these books pretty easily....
Kid Colt # 1,2,3,4,5,6,9,11,12,38
Tessie The Typist # 1
Riot # 1
Men's Adventures # 4
So don't buy any of those. His current work contract is just about up so he will be back soon with way cool scans.
As for attrition...Well we will never have to worry about that...cuz I have Teabag2 ready to join up with us. We need to get his info so he can Pypal ya Pmack. I'll make with the email right now.
this project is going faster than the meat off my bones...keep up the good work

yeah yeah, we know where to get Kid Colt....We're talking about Rawhide Kid, so other than e-bay, if you know where to get some books, speak up. :)
You know, we can find just about any book. Finding it is not the problem. Finding it at a price we can 1) afford and 2) resell it for is the problem.
We need Rawhide Kid 23... anyone think we should buy it at that price? Does anyone think we could sell it for close to that price?
BTW, same site has a RK19 for $25. :sigh:
Um considering that I've already scanned Rawhide Kid 23,and that we don't need it, no thanks! :)
yeah lets always double check that we are not buying books that have already been scanned c2c. no use in that. Im open to buying anything at all that you guys want, you buy, im happy, just dont buy anything thats already been done complete.
Erm, my post didn't translate well. I didn't really want to buy that Rawhide 23.
My point was that, yeah, we can get Rawhide 22 right now, but I don't think we should spend $100 to get it, because we're not going to be able to sell it for that price. I'd rather wait for a lower-grade copy that we can get cheaper.
yes, lets be smart about the buying.
we need to buy stuff we can get at least an even return, or at the very least a minimal lose.
I have Rawhide Kid 22.
well PLEASE scan it. :)
I have Rawhide Kid 21.
