I haven't posted here in quite some time, and while the Atlas Scan Project as a collective succumbed to entropy, the work still continues.
I maintain a 4shared page with all the latest scans and scanning information. You can find a link on the right. I believe you need to sign up for a (free) 4shared account to view the page, otherwise you get a notice about the link being invalid.
In the future, I will probably post a list of the newest scans which you can pick up at the 4shared site.

Happy Halloween!
And what better way to celebrate than with... crime comics?
Okay, I've got some new scans for the group:
Adventures Into Terror 005
Complete Mystery 001
Complete Mystery 004
True Complete Mystery 005
War Combat 004
That finishes off the Complete Mystery/True Complete Mystery series.
Files are available at the repository link at the right, as always.

That is not dead which can eternal lie
Greetings!
It's been many months since I've posted an update, and several of you have asked what's going on. The short answer is that I just dropped the ball.
I've still been buying, scanning and selling books, but because I wasn't keeping track of anything, I haven't updated anything. There have been books that were purchased, in my mind, as part of this project*. Those scans were released but not attributed to the group out of sheer laziness on my part. (If I didn't release them as ASP books, I didn't have to reconcile the spreadsheet. Or so the thinking went.)
What I've done is reconciled the spreadsheet from October, and just disregarded most of the activity for the last 8 months or so. This will work in ASP's favor, as all ebay sales I've made in the last year just served to whittle down the finances. (Seriously. When you buy a book for $200 and sell it for $125 (Cap America 73), or buy for $135 and sell for $75 (Whip Wilson 9), you start to feel like a chump.) The only books I added to the spreadsheet were the two uploaded to the ASP 4shared site.
I'm not asking for, nor will I accept any further donations, but I'd like to put the remainder of our money to a better and more transparent use.
I'd also like to get some feedback on what to buy, so if you've got some suggestions or a wantlist, post it!
Pmack
* some examples of should-have-been ASP scans that weren't: Menace 1 & 6, Crime Must Lose 5, 6, 8, 12, Men's Adventures 24-26.

Welcome Back, Kotter
Once again it's been a loooong time since the last update, and once again I apologize. This will be a brief update.
There were a few new purchases in since the last time I updated; the good news is most are scanned:
Black Rider Rides Again 001
Blackstone the Magician 004
Marvel Mystery Comics 083
Venus 001
Whip Wilson 009
There are 12 new scans are available through the Project Repository link on the right:
01) Black Rider 019
02) Black Rider 020
03) Black Rider Rides Again 001
04) Cowboy Romances 001 - - thanks Gambit!
05) Cowboy Romances 003 - - thanks Gambit!
06) Rangeland Love 001
07) Rangeland Love 002
08) Romances of the West 001 - thanks Gambit!
09) Venus 001
10) Western Life Romances 001
11) Western Life Romances 002
12) Whip Wilson 009
There are four outstanding scans:
01) Blackstone the Magician 004
02) Cowgirl Romances 028 - Gambit to edit
03) Marvel Mystery Comics 083 (currently editing)
04) Romances of the West 002 - Gambit to edit
I sold a majority of the books I had on hand. As usual, we lost money on most. I believe the worst was the Whip Wilson 009, as we paid a premium because it was CGCed, and we took a hit when I cracked it to scan.

Summer vacation is almost over!
Three more books have been scanned and uploaded. 3-D Action 001 has finally been finished and uploaded, thanks to Tomander, who did an incredible job cleaning the book up. It looks fantastic! In addition, Marvel Mystery Comics 092 and Sports Stars 001 have been uploaded.
We've sold several books, and I purchased Black Rider 19 & 20 for the group. Spreadsheet has been updated.
There has also been discussion of the next book we are going to buy. Brigus has found a copy of Whip Wilson 9 for $150. When I first heard the price, I was aghast! That seemed like a lot to spend on a Western. Then I looked it up and realized it's a steal for that book. We'll close on it sometime in the next week.
Below is the current status of all books I am still holding:
01) 3-D Action 001 - scanned, uploaded, sold
02) Apache Kid 018 - scanned & uploaded
03) Black Rider 019 - received
04) Black Rider 020 - received

June update
FIRST OFF: While updating the spreadsheet, I realized it was not accurate, as I neglected to add a donation, and even worse, I neglected to acknowledge a previous donation.
Back in December, Tomander graciously donated another share. This was recorded in the spreadsheet, but I never mentioned it here on the blog. I am extremely sorry for this.
In April, Ford joined our group and donated a share. I noted it on the blog, but his share was never added to the spreadsheet. This has been fixed.
NEXT: New purchases!
A few weeks ago I bought some books that will probably elicit a groan from a bunch of you :) I bought 9 Timely-era Western Romance books, one of which was bought for a rescan. I know, I know... but they were fairly cheap, they hardly ever come up for sale, and they've got to be done eventually. But, yeah, I know. Western Romances. :sigh:
I also bought another elusive book. It's elusive in the sense that it's never cheap, and I won it for about half of what copies are selling for on Ebay right now. I bought Marvel Mystery Comics 92. It's the last book in the series, and is also the first appearance of The Witness, which some of you know is one of my current favorites. I got it for $304. To put it in perspective, the cheapest copy on ebay right now is $820 for a CGCed 2.5 grade. I think after I scan this I'm going to submit it for a grade. I expect it will get around a 1.5, maybe a 2, and I'm hoping to sell it for around $500.
We didn't actually have enough in the kitty for this purchase, so I kicked in the balance. It ended up being a simple split; the group paid 2/3, I put in the last 1/3. When we sell it, I'll just split the money the same way.
Onto the current inventory update:
01) 3-D Action 001 - scanned, Tomander to edit
02) All-Western Winners 003 - scanned, uploaded, sold
03) All-Western Winners 004 - scanned & uploaded

Welcome our newest member who joined in mid-April. Dave (NotAlbert), who you might recognize from ABPC, has contributed to our project. Many thanks!
Good news! Almost everything on hand has been scanned and uploaded; some books have been sold. New information in bold:
01) 3-D Action 001 - scanned, still not edited*
02) All-Western Winners 002 - scanned, uploaded & sold

16) Wild Western 007 - pages scanned to complete existing scan & uploaded
17) Wild Western 025 - scanned & uploaded
18) Witness 001 - scanned & uploaded
And finally, I bought a few more books:
19) Gunsmoke Western 034 - last book we need for series!
20) Apache Kid 018
21) Ideal 004 - with a Witness story
22) Sports Stars 001 - tough issue to find
Project excel file has been updated.
*Lord, this book is such a headache. The pages are browning at the edges, so when I make auto color corrections that make the middle of the page good, the page borders turn an ugly dark purple. Manual correction still leaves the borders a dark color. Still working on ways to minimize this effect and still have a nice looking book. In addition, the printing of the pages were bad, so on some pages there is a 2" strip through the middle of the page where the red ink was running out. Ugh. I dropped a sample page in the 4shared directory, if anyone has any suggestions.

Wild Western Project
OK, as per the comments of the last thread, we're going to try and finish the series Wild Western. It ran from for 54 issues (003 to 057). Currently 24 issues are scanned; all but two are c2c (007 and 027).
I've got 15 issues flagged as intents:
ASP - 003, 007, 025
Pmack - 022
Brigus - 012, 015, 019, 020, 021, 026, 031, 033, 035, 052, 056
This leaves 18 issues to be scanned:
013, 016, 017, 018, 023, 024, 027, 028, 029,
034, 038, 042, 044, 046, 048, 049, 054, 055
CORRECTED as per gambit's info in comments
----
I also made some changes to the spreadsheet. I've reversed the order of the listings so that the newer purchases are at the top of the page, and I've added a second worksheet with member donation breakdowns. This is sort of a test run; it will give you an idea of about how much cash you are due back from your donation if you decide to leave the group.

Latest update!
Here's the latest update:
The books remaining from the last batch:
2) Men's Adventures #28 - SCANNED & SOLD; see below
3) Marvel Mystery Comics #59 - SCANNED, UPLOADED, SOLD
6) Mystic Comics (2nd series) #3 - SCANNED, UPLOADED, SOLD
7) Young Allies #18 - SCANNED, UPLOADED, SOLD
8) Space Squadron #1 - SCANNED, UPLOADED, SOLD
9) Venus #15 - SCANNED, UPLOADED, SOLD
10) Men In Action #9 - scanned & uploaded
12) Crime Exposed #1 (1948) - not scanned yet
13) Official True Crime Cases #24 (#1) - not scanned yet
14) 3-D Action #1 - see below
I have scanned Men's Adventures #28, but it was a coverless book. I am awaiting a scan of the IFC from an acquaintance before I upload it.
I have scanned 3-D Action #1, but I am having trouble editing it. between the brown pages and the 3D effects, it's a hellish ordeal.
I got the missing covers/pages for Space Squadron 1, so that's been put up.
We made some money on Venus 15, and I sold the others in an off-eBay deal for just a little less than we paid. Spreadsheet has been updated.
I also bought some new material, most of it western:
1) The Witness 001
2) All-Western Winners 002 (1st Black Rider!)
3) All-Western Winners 003 - bought to make existing scan c2c
4) Wild Western 003
5) Wild Western 007 - bought to make existing scan c2c
6) Best Western 059
7) True Western 001
8) Arizona Kid 005
9) Arizona Kid 006
10) All-Western Winners 4
11) Wild Western 25
Most of it has not arrived yet.

Did you miss me?
Here's the latest update on the books in queue. Bold books are new and can be downloaded from the 4shared site:
1) Blackstone the Magician #3 - scanned, uploaded and sold
2) Men's Adventures #28 - sold
3) Marvel Mystery Comics #59 - scanned & uploaded
4) Marvel Mystery Comics #69 - SCANNED, UPLOADED, SOLD
5) Marvel Mystery Comics #75 - SCANNED, UPLOADED, SOLD
6) Mystic Comics (2nd series) #3 - SCANNED & UPLOADED
7) Young Allies #18 - SCANNED & UPLOADED
8) Space Squadron #1 - see below
9) Venus #15
10) Men In Action #9 - scanned & uploaded
11) Two Gun Kid #25 - SCANNED, UPLOADED, SOLD
12) Crime Exposed #1 (1948)
13) Official True Crime Cases #24 (#1)
14) 3-D Action #1
Some explanations:
Space Squadron #1 - this was a coverless book, but it turns out it's also missing the centerfold. It was in the description, but I didn't see that. I guess that's why I was able to buy it for $11. I'm working on getting the missing pages.
I am putting together a deal to sell a few of the books to someone off eBay (MMC 59, Young Allies 18, Mystic 3).
We sold a few of the books I just put up for you to download, but as is SOP with eBay lately, we lost money on all of them. It averaged to about a $20 loss per book. I will update the spreadsheet very soon with the exact numbers.
There are still a few books I need to scan (Venus 15, Crime Exposed 1, Official True Crime Cases 24)
Hey, did you notice a new book on the list? Thanks to another share donation from Tomander, I was able to grab 3-D Action #1. We paid a lot for it (overpaid, to be honest, based on the condition), but this book so rarely comes around that I didn't want to pass it up. I've scanned it but am still in the process of editing it.

The long-awaited update!
I've chatted with several of you over the last few weeks and you're all asking what's going on, so here's an update.
FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS: MONEY
1) I need to apologize for a donation that was never acknowledged. Back in August, Fett donated another share. The amount was added to the running total in my head, but I neglected to thank Fett & let you guys know about it. Mea maxima culpa!
2) Mal32 generously donated the proceeds of two books I sold for him, and while they did not get the money I hoped they would (more about this below), it has added $340 to the kitty. Total discussed in the next section...
SECOND ORDER OF BUSINESS: FEES
Ebay revised their fee structure back in August so that listing is cheap, but they whack you for more on the back end. Spreadsheet has been updated with the new figures. It has also been simplified; I combined all three fee columns into one field which calculates automatically based on the sell price.
THIRD ORDER OF BUSINESS: NEW BOOKS!
So the grand total we had available was about $615, so I started buying some books:
1) Blackstone the Magician #3 - SCANNED & UPLOADED
2) Men's Adventures #28
3) Marvel Mystery Comics #59 - SCANNED & UPLOADED
4) Marvel Mystery Comics #69
5) Marvel Mystery Comics #75
6) Mystic Comics (2nd series) #3
7) Young Allies #18
8) Space Squadron #1
9) Venus #15
10) Men In Action #9 - SCANNED & UPLOADED
11) Two Gun Kid #25 (I'm told this is the last issue we need)
12) Crime Exposed #1 (1948)
13) Official True Crime Cases #24 (#1)
Some of the books are coverless, and one (MMC 59) was coverless & missing the 1st wrap, but I have a fiche of it, so those pages have been restored. I've already sold Blackstone #3, and we actually made a small profit on that one. There's still $87 left to spend, even with the purchase of all those books.
Now, I mentioned this above, but I wanted to go into a little more detail. Right now, because of the economy, eBay sales are in the tank. It's great when you want to buy stuff because everything's dirt cheap, but reselling it hurts. We got lucky on the Blackstone book because it's not one you see often, but I can tell you that sales are awful. I have taken a beating selling my own books. Some of it is Christmas, but the economy is a big part of it. I am not going to start selling again until the second or 3rd week of January and I hope it gets a little better.
As always, suggestions on how to spend the balance are always welcome!

2) They have been scanned and uploaded!
Black Rider 9 ($42) - SCANNED
Black Rider 13 ($30) - SCANNED
Blackstone the Magician 2 ($72) - SCANNED

Summer vacation's over, get back to work!
I have returned after another break, I apologize for the lack of updates...
Here's the latest:
- I sold that Rawhide Kid #1 for more than we paid ($250), but after paying the ebay and paypal fees it ended up costing us $2.50 to buy and scan that book. I'd say that was pretty good, considering the price of the original purchase ($235).
- Right now the money is tied up in several purchases:
1) 3D Tales of the West #1 ($115) - SCANNED
2) Two Gun Kid 23 ($54) - SCANNED
3) Black Rider 9 ($42) - hasn't arrived yet
3) Black Rider 13 ($30) - hasn't arrived yet
4) Blackstone the Magician 2 ($72) - hasn't arrived yet
There's less than $35 left in the kitty at this point.
Also available at the 4shared site, some older books I hadn't done because they were rescans:
Wyatt Earp 005 - SCANNED
Wyatt Earp 025 - SCANNED
I am particularly excited about that Blackstone, as I was looking at another copy and it was $125. I always get nervous about buying pricier books because ebay is such a horrible place to sell stuff now, and it's so easy to end up taking a bath. We've been fortunate enough not to have lost more than $20 on any one book so far.
The spreadsheet has been updated and is available to download.

Another purchase
I didn't want to post this until I had the book in my hand, but I made another purchase for the group... 3-D Tales of the West #1. It was on eBay but I made the seller an offer and he pulled the book. We got it for $115. Considering I was thinking about buying the other copy on ebay for $299, this was a great deal.
I should have it scanned in the next week or so.

Rawhide Kid 001 uploaded
Title says it all!
In case anyone is wondering about the scan credit in the name (ASP-Pmack), I gave it some thought. I know there was a discussion a while back about some people not wanting to join a group per say, but I have been thinking that it doesn't seem right that I scan and upload a book and get all the "credit" for it, especially when it goes public. I decided to use the same credit conventions that the mighty Ontololgy uses when he scans fiche. When he credits the scan, even though he's done all the work himself, he always includes OldWayne, because OW supplied the fiche. (I know sometimes others edit fiche for him, but that doesn't affect my point.) I may have scanned Rawhide Kid 1, but it was supplied by the Atlas Scan Project and they will be credited accordingly.
So from this point on, I'm going to use that convention here as well. Credits will be (ASP-scan-edit). I share all the released files on DC++, and I've renamed them to this standard. Whether or not those of you who edit our scans want to follow this when you upload here is completely up to you, but when I share in the hubs or upload them to the newsgroup they will be standardized to this format.

Rawhide Kid #1
Here's some new info to keep you all up-to-date:
1) As discussed in the comments of the last update, there was a hard-to-find Rawhide Kid #1 up for auction, which I bid on and won. With shipping it came to $235. It has been paid for and I'm just waiting for the arrival.
This is the kind of book I was hoping this project would enable us to get. I don't think anyone here wants to spend that much on one book, so I'm glad you're all in on this.
Gambit informs me that we now only need three issues to complete the series: 5, 6 and 13. Which leads me into item #2...
2) I have sold just about everything we have already purchased and scanned. I think I have less that $25 in books left that haven't been sold yet. With the new donations to the group and the money not spent on RK #1, we have $85 in the kitty. At this point, I'm going to hold onto this money to purchase any/all of the three issues we are missing from Rawhide Kid. If you see one for auction or BIN, or on some other site, get in touch with me and I'll buy it. If you can't get in contact with me and you're afraid it will get sold, buy it yourself and I will fully reimburse you.
3) I mentioned new donations above: Mal32 kicked in another share. In addition, please welcome Fett to the group, who kicked in a little more that our average share.
4) There have been some new files uploaded:
Rawhide Kid 003 - edited by Teachbug
Patsy Walker 030 - edited by montagnard93
I also updated the scan_project file with the latest numbers. I haven't updated the checklist yet, but for those who aren't aware, Brigus has dropped a bunch of excellent-looking early Kid Colt Outlaws in the last week.
5) I'm going to try and set up an RSS feed for this blog later today.

Update: Don't Bury Me, I'm Not Dead!*
Wha? Who? Where am I? it's the end of May? Really? The last thing I remember is the bartender bringing me a drink he said was a special one, just for you... on the house.... Now my wallet and keys are missing, and I've no idea what happened to the last 7 weeks...
Anyway, there are some new files for download. I've updated the project and checklist excel sheets, as I sold several of the books. We took a beating on several of them, especially the books I bought from the seller "lilylovescomics", all of which were so brittle they completely split in half when I went to scan them. Of course this destroyed the resale value. Ugh.
Now available for download:
Apache Kid 12
Battle 29
War Comics 15
I also posted RAWs for Rawhide Kid 3 which will be edited by Teachbug and Patsy Walker 30 which will be edited by Mal32.
All I have left to scan are the two Wyatt Earp books (5 & 25), and I have 5 or 6 books left to sell, which I hope to list this week, then I can focus on getting a few big books like I talked about in the last update.
*post title comes from that cheesy 80s horror movie "The Serpent and the Rainbow".
